We work with industry, and other, partners to tackle the biggest challenges in research and innovation.

ML-Labs is a cohort-based, interdisciplinary PhD training program designed to address the urgent demand from industry for machine learning talent. Our program has been defined through close engagement with industry since our inception. ML-Labs engages with industry partners utilising two models: Cohort Partnerships and Strategic Partnerships.

Cohort partnerships offer industry partners the opportunity to engage with our PhD candidates by hosting them on a 16 week work placement. Throughout the course of the work placement the PhD candidate will work on projects defined with the industry partner, and will become a fully engaged member of staff of that partner organization.

Strategic partnerships offers industry partners the opportunity to engage with the world-class academic supervisors at the ML-Labs partner institutions – UCD, TU Dublin and DCU – by co-defining a machine learning research topic of key relevance to that partner. The student who is awarded this position will work on a project, as co-defined by the partner and ML-Labs for the duration of the PhD. Strategic Partners will also have access to the IP arising from the project that they sponsor.

Additionally, Strategic Partners will have a position on the centre’s Advisory Committees. This gives a unique opportunity to craft the training programme for centre graduates.
