Understanding the Fuelling Requirements of Elite Female Soccer Players
Women’s soccer is currently one of fastest growing sports worldwide. Appropriate fuelling is essential to optimise player health and performance. Studies in sports nutrition are typically conducted and reported at the group level, however, it has been questioned whether group-level results can be generalised to individual athletes. The objective of this research is to combine widely available portable technologies (e.g global positional systems, continuous glucose monitors, heart rate monitors etc.) with targeted physiological assessments (e.g dietary intake analysis, substrate oxidation rates etc.) to determine an athlete’s individualised carbohydrate requirements for optimal performance.
